Denise Kable Campus Vision

The Denise Kable Campus encompasses three programs: the Positive Learning Centre, the Denise Kable Special Education Program and a team of Behaviour Support teachers.

The key focus of the DKC is to deliver educational support services to schools and teachers across the District, and to offer programs to students with special support requirements, including those with recognized low incidence disabilities, and / or complex and challenging behaviours.

The staff at DKC aspire to provide stimulating programs that are designed to meet the needs of individuals, are innovative, creative and practical in nature, motivating and success orientated. The programs aim to assist students’ preparation for a satisfying and productive adult life.

Pedagogy, therefore, focuses on preparing young people as life long learners. Life skills and programs addressing the areas of social / emotional resilience and interpersonal skills form the basis of the programs offered at DKC.

A multi-element approach, underpinned by the values, beliefs and principles of SWPBS, and including Functional Behaviour Analysis as developed by La Vigna and Willis, guides the way in which we support students, teachers and schools. When working with schools, we endeavour to improve student access to inclusive and meaningful educational programs.

Staff aspire to building meaningful and respectful relationships by negotiating roles and responsibilities, and working together to achieve agreed goals. They appreciate the strengths different personalities and operating styles bring to a team, and adhere to established protocols for conversations and meetings. Clearly defined processes and protocols for the referral, support and exiting of students assist the DKC team in providing effective support services, ensuring clients’ needs are met.

All staff actively promote our programs, and present a unified and positive team view to those with whom they come in contact.
